The Roman sky is something quite special. “This place is so strong from an architectural point of view but it’s also very strong in terms of the connection you have with nature, especially with the sky. “The starting point was really to reproduce the colour I see from these huge arcades and windows,” she says. Silvia’s new collection offered her another opportunity to lose herself in the heavens. “So the idea was looking at things from above.” It has, of course, been a long-time dream of hers to cast off the planet’s mortal coil and head into space. “I was thinking that this palazzo is like a spaceship to me,” she clarifies. The exigencies of Covid-19 meant that Silvia had to shut down the on-site cinema where she’d usually show her staff the celluloid inspiration of the moment, so, this season, it migrated to her mood board, which was all about Close Encounters of the Third Kind. ![]() “I introduced the Palazzo Fendi and lots of little FF’s here and there, where there are buildings that belong to the company or people and places that we love.” The other print comes from aerial views photographed from space, earth and oceans abstracted so that they could almost be a new animalier pattern. What looks to me like a Jackson Pollock scribble is an old map of Rome, revisioned in an artisanal way, “with some landmarks as points of reference,” Silvia adds. ![]() The prints of her new men’s collection reflect that bird’s eye perspective. A preview of Fendi Men's Spring/Summer 2022. Everything is in a small, small scale.”Ī preview of Fendi Men's Spring/Summer 2022. Here, you see the city and the traffic, but you also see the mountains and the sea. It’s a very different landscape, a very different Rome. When you look from the windows, you see everything in microscale. I’m staring at Silvia Venturini Fendi on a screen, and behind her, I can see a slice of those arcades and an expanse of blue sky, and she is saying, “It’s exactly this place that has become more and more my point of view since our references have become as limited as our freedom. The Imp of the Perverse was a widely used metaphor in the 19th century to explain when a person does the exact wrong thing simply because they can. Many of his works are generally considered part of the dark romanticism genre, a literary reaction to transcendentalism, which Poe strongly disliked. His most recurring themes deal with questions of death, including its physical signs, the effects of decomposition, concerns of premature burial, the reanimation of the dead, and mourning. Poe's best known fiction works are Gothic, a genre he followed to appease the public taste. Poe and his work appear throughout popular culture in literature, music, films, and television today, and the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens got their name from his most famous poem. Poe and his works influenced literature in the United States and around the world, as well as in specialized fields, such as cosmology and cryptography. Long before Sherlock Holmes became famous, Poe invented the genre of detective fiction and contributed to science fiction. Part of the American Romantic Movement, Poe is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, and Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story. The circumstances surrounding his untimely death are still unknown, as is what made him tick. Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) is one of America’s greatest and most dark and mysterious writers.
